Singapore Zoo
The Singapore Zoo is a top tourist destination. It was formerly the Singapore Zoological Gardens and is known amongst locals as the Mandai Zoo. The hotel opened in 1973 and includes over 300 species of animals and birds including many which are considered threatened species. The zoo has the largest colony of orangutans in the world. The zoo attracts around 1.4 million visitors per year.
The zoo exhibits their animals in natural, open spaces which makes it ideal for tourists and also comfortable for the animals. This open zoo concept includes landscaped enclosures and moats instead of bars.
The zoo is located in a forested part of the island but is close to some of Singapore’s five star hotels. Access to the zoo is easy. The zoo features animal exhibits, animal shows, conservation and research programs as well as trams and carriage rides.
Within the zoo there are three event venues - the Forest Lodge, the Pavilion-By-the-Lake and the Garden Pavilion. The zoo also accommodates three cocktail bars, the Elephants of Asia, the Tiger Trek and the Treetops Trail. You can also host your birthday party or wedding at the Singapore Zoo.
