Caring for Tungsten Jewelry
The beauty and durability of tungsten has made it an increasingly popular metal in jewelry design. You may find yourself in possession of dazzling tungsten rings , bracelets, watches, pendants, and even designer key chains. Although this material is strong enough to resist much of the damage of softer metals, it will still need to be cleaned and cared for. Here are a few things you need to remember about caring for your tungsten jewelry.
The tungsten itself should be cleaned regularly with a mild cleaner and wiped off with a soft, smooth rag. You want to avoid rags with scratchy textures or fibers. They won’t scratch the tungsten, but they may adversely affect the finish.
If your jewelry has gemstones or other metals, you’ll need to follow the instructions for cleaning each element individually.
When storing tungsten jewelry, you should place it in a cool, dry place and consider wrapping each piece in tissue paper or cloth. While this is not strictly necessary, it can keep jewelry from being scratched or damaged by other pieces. If you don’t individually wrap the jewelry, you should take care to keep tungsten pieces away from diamond jewelry as diamonds are the one substance that could scratch the tungsten.
If you notice any problems with the jewelry, such a loose setting or chips or scratches, you should take the piece to a jeweler to be repaired.
