English is still regarded as one of the world’s common languages, in spite of the fact that it is the native language of a small portion of the global population. Forms of Chinese are much more common as are various Indian languages. It is due to the historical political and commercial importance of first Great Britain and then the United States that English is commonly spoken as a second language in countries all over the world.

One of the more interesting elements about English is that although it is named as a single language, there are actually several different versions, or dialects of the language. The Queen’s English is not the same as that spoken in Canada which can vary from that in the United States. Even Australia, New Zealand and other places where English is the native tongue will each have their own variations.

In England, American tourists should seek out a car hire rather than a car rental. They will find themselves using a loo rather than a bathroom and a lift instead of an elevator. Visitors on longer stays may want to rent a flat (instead of an apartment) and will need to get used to countless other terms for everyday objects which are different in England than in the US, just as those from the American South will have different slang terms than those in northern, western, or even mid-western states.

Corruption is a problem in any society. Government officials, law enforcement, and other people in a position of authority or power are surrounded by temptations. However, they are not the only people who abuse a system put in place for the betterment of society. There is a widely held belief that people on welfare or receiving disability benefits in this country are taking advantage of the system.

These positions usually last from two to three months; however, those with flexible schedules are able to stay longer. Some nurses take a travel position as a stop gap between permanent jobs while others thrive on the nomadic nature of the field and continue to take assignments, thereby building an actual career as a travel nurse.
