Museums in Geneva
Geneva has art galleries and museums all across the city and in almost every neighborhood. It is well known for its appreciation of art, the performance scene and cultural heritage and the amount of galleries that exist and thrive in this great Swiss city testify to this. The great culture and dynamic performance, music and art scene is also one of the most attractive features of the city to many of the numerous tourists who visit it every year. People come from across the world to visit Switzerland and Geneva is typical one of the most popular as well as favorite spots. The fabulous hotels in Geneva are hosts to people from all over the world and many of them are interested in visiting one or more of the local galleries and museums.
One of the most popular, as well as political impressive, landmarks to visit, that while many people consider to be, is not actually a museum. However, the Palace of Nations, is open to the public and there are some very interesting pieces on display here. Meanwhile, regarding the museums and galleries specifically, there are over thirty of them in the city and they represent the diverse cultural heritage of Geneva and the country as well as the many art genres that exist today and throughout history.
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is one of the most popular for tourists to visit and it is also well loved by the residents. It is housed in an old factory warehouse and the museum represents some of the greatest and cutting edge Modern Art found in Europe. The Natural History Museum is a dynamic contrast to the MAMCO and is one of the city’s impressive institutions. One of the intentions of this museum is to present its exhibits in an educational manner and also to supply programs and educational aspects in its structure. There are many exhibits that are targeted to the interests of children though most of the adults also enjoy these. There is a life size model menagerie which is a favorite for most of the visitors. The Rath Museum is a great place to visit for a specific to Geneva experience. This was the first of its kind museum and is dedicated to display and support the fine arts of Geneva.
