More Buddhas in Hong Kong

This is my second month in Hong Kong. Time really flies, I can’t believe it. This last month was a lot of fun, I’ve been playing up the tourist part, visiting all the attractions and seeing all the sights. There is always something to do in Hong Kong. Life is starting for fall in line for me, work is going well. I teach children half the time and adults the other half. Every single one of my students is wonderful. One of my students, Tara, from Beijing, has been particularly great. Since I has to move out of one of the five star Hong Kong hotels, she has generously offered me her apartment until I get back to America in just a few weeks from now. So, I took her up on her offer and moved in two days ago.

She lives in the Causeway Bay area, it’s not as convenient as my hotel and it is a bit more noisy and crowded, but the apartment is really very nice and I’m only a block away from a gym. I’m sleeping in her living area on a nice big futon, it’s okay, not ideal, but it beats paying for a hotel room.

So, Hong Kong is treating me nicely. I have some good friends, who come with me to explore the city. I’ve been meeting lots of new people. I think since there are a lot of us foreigners here, we all can relate to each other and that makes it easier to be here. I’ve done quiet a few things in the past few weeks. I saw the famous Big Buddha in Lantau Island, not that was really interesting. It took taking a 25 minute cable car ride, which was really the most interesting part of the tour. Then we landed on this small island, it was modern and new and full of little shops and even a Starbucks. Then we walked up 200 steps to reach the top of this gigantic sitting Buddha.

The following week, I felt the need to see more Buddhas, so I went to the 10,000 Buddha Temple. Naturally, there were Buddhas everywhere. So, I can now say, I’m all Buddha-ed out!
