Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Manhattan

Robert was sitting at the table complaining to his good friend Mike that there was never any good theatre in their town. He was frustrated after looking through the paper and not finding anything that he wanted to see. As was mentioned previously, Mike and Robert were close friends, but that didn’t stop Mike from complaining that Robert was always pretentious sounding. “Oh, come on,” he said, “You can’t find anything in that paper?” “No, not a darn thing” was Robert’s response as he dramatically slammed down his New York Times onto the table top at their favorite diner.

Mike couldn’t believe it. There they were at Ellen’s Stardust Diner on the corner of 51st and Broadway and his friend was complaining that there was no good theatre in town. Right, and it was also impossible to find a descent diner he thought sarcastically. There they were in the middle of not only the top theatre and best restaurants Manhattan but arguably the rest of the country, and his good friend couldn’t find a thing to go see.

So Mike started to casually mention a few of the shows that just happen to be playing in the same town Robert was complaining about. He mentioned Jude Law who at the current time is staring in one of the greatest roles in existence and in one of the greatest plays ever written, which is of course Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Then of course there was also Phantom of the Opera that was also playing in their little town. Mike mentioned God of Carnage, Oleanna by David Mamet who also happens to have the play Race, which he wrote and directed, playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and The Glass Manager – but before he could get the entire word out Robert was balled over laughing at himself and the waiter had wandered over and was singing Send in The Clowns.
