Canberra, Australia’s City by Design

There are many reasons to travel to the capital city of Canberra, Australia. Hotel accommodations are reasonably priced and for those interested in world history, politics and the way that Australia fits into those realms, this is the place to be.  There are many different locations of historical significance, monuments and museums that one must really make a detailed schedule if they do not want to miss out on anything there is to see, and to learn about.

The National Capital Museum is well worth the trip, as not only is the museum filled with the art, their own theater, and a wide array of items and lectures, it is located at Regatta Point, close to the monument to Captain James Cook, and the offers incredible view of Parliamentary Triangle.  There are many ways in which the museum illustrates the history of the city and one way, which is perfect for children, is through interactive exhibits and displays.

History revealed through specific events and people and the way in which the development and the design of the city came about.  The city was designed from scratch by the team of MarionMahony Griffin and Burley Griffin.  The couple were not only partners in a Chicago Architecture business, but they were also married, and became world known when their drawings and designs for the city were pick out of one hundred and thirty seven other applicants in the 1912 competition in Australia.

He and his wife built many buildings over their careers with spanned almost three decades, and were the first to use such technological advances in the design and the construction of not only the buildings, but in the materials he used to build them.  Aside from the incredible layout out of the city, the location is perfectly center between ski resorts and the beach, and the climate is a bit cooler here than the other major cities.  This is a wonderful city, filled with history and legendary architecture, and incredible landscaping.
