Picasso and Dali Exhibited at Spain’s National Museum in Madrid

Jolie wasn’t planning on falling in love this fall. In fact, she thought she may never fall in love again. However, when her best friend Amber convinced her to take a trip to Spain together, she had no idea that she was about to encounter a major life changing event, succumbing to love. As it was, she had ended a seven year relationship due to circumstances that need not go into detail here, it is enough to say things didn’t workout and that Joe, her boyfriend, was not a nice person. That relationship ended six months ago and though Jolie has been set up a couple of times and has experienced what many people would consider to be a rebound affair, she had no intention of ever falling in love again, or at least not right away.

And then Amber had to come along and insist the two of them go to Spain together. Amber sensed that Jolie was still suffering from her breakup with Joe and wanted to get her away from everything and she figured that a week stay in one of the five star Madrid hotels would be just the remedy. And although Jolie was reluctant to agree and took some convincing by Amber, now she could not imagine her life without having experienced Madrid, where she met Vincent.

It happened on their second day in the city. They decided they would have a relaxing day and visit the Museo Reina Sofia, which is Spain’s national museum for twentieth century art, and then later they would decide how to spend the evening. Both of the women were amazed with the great works of art they found including pieces by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. Jolie stood looking amazed at Picasso’s Guernica when someone accidentally bumped into her left shoulder. Excuse me, said the soft spoken Vincent. It seems he had lost his sense of balance while looking amazedly at the painting. Their eyes met and that was all it took. It was a real life example of non compromise-able love at first sight. In fact it went a bit further, it really seemed as if the two of them actually already knew each other. When Amber found them a few minutes later she could not mistake the energy emanating from the couple and knew it was stronger than what might have been brought on by one of the paintings.

Canberra, Australia’s City by Design

There are many reasons to travel to the capital city of Canberra, Australia. Hotel accommodations are reasonably priced and for those interested in world history, politics and the way that Australia fits into those realms, this is the place to be.  There are many different locations of historical significance, monuments and museums that one must really make a detailed schedule if they do not want to miss out on anything there is to see, and to learn about.

The National Capital Museum is well worth the trip, as not only is the museum filled with the art, their own theater, and a wide array of items and lectures, it is located at Regatta Point, close to the monument to Captain James Cook, and the offers incredible view of Parliamentary Triangle.  There are many ways in which the museum illustrates the history of the city and one way, which is perfect for children, is through interactive exhibits and displays.

History revealed through specific events and people and the way in which the development and the design of the city came about.  The city was designed from scratch by the team of MarionMahony Griffin and Burley Griffin.  The couple were not only partners in a Chicago Architecture business, but they were also married, and became world known when their drawings and designs for the city were pick out of one hundred and thirty seven other applicants in the 1912 competition in Australia.

He and his wife built many buildings over their careers with spanned almost three decades, and were the first to use such technological advances in the design and the construction of not only the buildings, but in the materials he used to build them.  Aside from the incredible layout out of the city, the location is perfectly center between ski resorts and the beach, and the climate is a bit cooler here than the other major cities.  This is a wonderful city, filled with history and legendary architecture, and incredible landscaping.

Public Strategies and Public Art

The Smart car is an idea whose time has come.  It’s extremely fuel efficient, has an ultra low emissions rating, ranks very well in safety tests, and perhaps more importantly, makes it easier to find a parking spot.  Those are just some of the reasons Mary Myrick, the leader of Public Strategies, chooses to drive this charming little vehicle in Oklahoma City.  Its bright green appearance adds a curiously whimsical touch to an oddly-shaped vehicle, as if driving itself were an act of artistic expression.

Making every moment into a moment of art is something that’s been building in Oklahoma City.    It’s the largest city in the state, and has en extremely active arts community.  The local scene here produces and presents excellent new works of public art, music, theatre and performance art, as well as a stunning visual arts repertoire, in every media imaginable.  Public Strategies is committed to seeing this trend continue, because it speaks to a lively civic mindedness, and this is always a wonderful way to open the roads for the public good in general.

There are, of course, other reasons that the car might suggest Mary Myrick’s commitment to the community as a whole.  It speaks of an investment in the future, consuming less of our valuable resources, and also taking up less space.  Streamlining vision doesn’t mean losing the spark of magic that makes life worth living, and there’s flair in everything.  Her work with the public and private sectors is a testimony to how commitment, determination, and a generous spark of magic can enter into any enterprise, and small acts can make large waves in the fabric of reality.  The client-centered principles that guide Public Strategies serve to remind all of us that the real vision is yours, and it’s our job to help you turn it into tangible actions.

Museo de Bellas Artes, Seville

Like something out of a movie set, Seville, the center of Andalusia in southern Spain, attracts visitors from all over the world.  It has been like this for centuries, with a long history of cultural conflicts and resolutions, the city is made of many cultures and many times.  The history is reflected in the architecture, bearing Moorish influences from centuries ago, as well as contemporary structures that speak to multiple cultures and styles of the here and now.  It’s a fantastic thing to be traveling to Seville.  Hotels are abundant here, and the sense of hospitality is absolutely remarkable.  We’ve selected some of the finest in the city, to give you a superb sense of the local taste, which is simply exquisite.

Bringing together the best of the classical past with the most splendid sensibilities of the here and now, our hotels reflect the city in their ability to merge disparate elements and make a very beautiful result.  You’ll enjoy waking up to marvelous surroundings, inside the room and outside, day after day, with impeccable hosts who know how to provide their guests with a luxury experience.  Continue the luxury as you enjoy a lovely breakfast and head out to see the great art in the city.  There are hosts of splendid buildings and local galleries, which can speak volumes about the city.  For a treat in looking at the history of Seville through its art, make sure to stop by the Museo de Bellas Artes.

The building is constructed in the Andalusian school of mannerism from the 17th century, and was first operating as the Merced Calzada Convent.  It was converted to the museum in the 19th century as a government-sponsored art institution.  Its collection today is fascinating, covering work from the Gothic period until the 20th century.  Most of the work at Bellas Artes is fairly representational, and there are fantastic works by classical and contemporary masters.

Do It Yourself Car Tune-Up

When one learns the basics about “do it yourself” auto repair, one gains a bit of freedom and will save money in the long run.  Many annual maintenance procedures such as oil changes and tune-ups can be done at home.  Both of these actions will do much to save the life of your large or small engine.  Repair manuals will serve to guide you along your way, and many garages or community colleges offer classes in auto repairs and the workings of car and motor cycle engines.

Gas prices have been so unpredictable over the last few years, and making certain that your car is properly tuned will ensure that it is running most efficiently and that you are getting the most miles to the gallon from your car or motor cycle.  Manuals from the dealer or the manufacturer of your vehicle can be found online or in most book stores, and many are written for the lay person, easy to understand.  Tune ups should be performed after thirty five thousand miles, and some people choose to head to the dealer for their tune ups, however this usually will cost an arm and a leg.  Smaller garages will often times charge less, but it is well worth it to just learn how to do this for yourself, and for your pocket book.

Fuel injectors do not need to be cleaned regularly.  If they become clogged, that is when it is time to clean them out.  The fuel filter however, should be changed regularly, in fact each time you tune up your vehicle you should change the filter.  The same is also true for spark plugs, they should be switched out each 35,000 miles.  New cars may have spark plugs that are made of platinum, which will increase that mileage to every 65,000.  Take a look at the wires of the spark plugs for wear, and if you should replace them, make certain to do so with those that are of high quality.  Distributor caps as well, should be replaced with each tune up.  Regular tune ups may not prevent the major things from happening over time, as cars will just break down from time to time.  But they will ensure that your car is running at maximum performance and will take care of many of those small problems that do turn into larger ones if left unattended.

Ritual, Repetition, and Hot Tubs

There are many tremendous benefits to having your own personal spa.  Some of these are tangible and even measurable by scientific methods, and these benefits include reduced blood pressure, increased circulation, and a deeper sleep.  There are others, such as stress reduction, which are much harder to measure, but they are certainly there.  There’s something that’s just very wonderful about having your own hot tub right in your own yard, always at your disposal.  You may not be thinking about the healthy side effects when you’re ready to plunge in after a long and difficult day, but you’ll feel the relief right away.

Being in water is something that’s just enormously agreeable to the human body.  We’re made of water mostly, and take well to being in water.  The cells respond favorably to the marvelous sense of equilibrium, and your mind will also respond immediately and start to relax.  It gets better the more you use it.  It’s also very pleasant for both the waking mind and the unconscious to take part in this ritual if it happens on a regular basis.  Whether we like ritual or not, the unconscious is built for it, and repetition seems to have a very positive effect on the mental health of human beings everywhere.

You’ll very likely start to enjoy the ritual of the hot tub, putting together your own series of steps that you take to make the space right for you and your friends.  The repetition of removing the cover alone can start to stimulate the idea of relaxation in your mind, and you can look forward to the enjoyment that’s soon to follow.  Turning on the bubbles, preparing the right music, the right lights, and the right atmosphere generally become pleasant activities that prepare you for the tub.  You’ll probably also like enjoying a splendid meal cooked on your grill as part of the hot tub experience, and a ritual meal is as elemental as a ritual bath, and this has enormously positive effects on the inner health of any human being.

Graduate Students Tour India Temples

Ryan and Joshua were religious studies graduate students who had received a joint study grant to visit India. They both had a focus on the history of Hindu gods and their articulation into society and the corresponding effects on cultural evolution. They had also become close friends while studying in the two year program that would lead them to their Master’s Degrees. Ryan knew he wanted to continue on with Hindu Studies and would ultimately pursue a PhD and go on to teach in a university. Joshua was a little more allusive in his long-term goals and had various interests. He knew writing would be a part of his future, and also had an interest in library work and even museums. While they had developed a close friendship, Ryan did not understand how Joshua could be so nonchalant about his future. Meanwhile Joshua could not relate to what he perceived to be Ryan’s rigidity.

However, what they both agreed on was how they would spend their grant money. They were both enormously interested in visiting some of the great Hindu temples of India and they arranged a sort of whirlwind tour of some of them. And although their grant didn’t provide for a stay in luxury accommodations, Ryan’s father contributed to a one night celebrational stay in one of the India 5 star hotels. Goa provided them a great afternoon on a beach and also the opportunity to visit some great temples. The toured the Sri Bhagavati Temple whose construction dates back to 1600. They were greatly impressed with the two story lamp towers that flanked the façade of this temple that was dedicated to the Lord Brahma. They also visited the beautiful Sri Mahalasa Temple that was built in the seventeenth century and is dedicated to the worship of the Lord Vishnu.

Making Singapore a Destination

It’s pouring down rain in Singapore! We were walking in Chinatown when the down pour hit. We made it back to our 5 star Singapore hotel sopping wet. Our hotel room was air-conditioned, so we got a chill and had to take a hot shower. By the time we dried off and changed close, the rain stopped. We headed back out and it was so humid! It felt like we never left the shower. It was hard to breath.

We had enough time to grab a taxi and have him point out some sight for us, he radio was blasting Eminem. He was good at pointing out some sights, but we hardly understood what he was saying. That was around 9pm. About 1am, we got out of his taxi and was walking through our hotel lobby, when the desk clerk stopped us and asked if we wouldn’t mind being bumped up to a luxury suite room for our last nights stay. We both looked at each other and said sure!

We slept like babies and enjoyed the beautiful view out our balcony. We were up by 7am and had breakfast delivered to our suite. We went all out with the ordering. After breakfast we went for a walk down the river then on to Chinatown. The shops weren’t open until 10am, so we took a taxi tot he Mustafa center, which is Singapore’s 24 hour shopping center. It’s more of a warehouse like shopping experience, but we got some nice prices for some electronics.

After that we packed up and headed to the airport. We thanked the hotel staff for bumping us up on our last night. That was really special. At the airport the security guys carry machine guns, even around the public areas! I felt intimidated, I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever considered just how terrorist have affected of most of the world airports security. The airport itself is very friendly and clean. I wish we would’ve had more time here in Singapore, but it was just a stop over on our way to New Zealand. Next time, we’ll have to make Singapore our destination.

Trip to Goa Celebrates Friendship and the Future

Goa, India continues to grow in tourist interest and visitation, and Whitney is one of the latest people to be attracted to its culture and geographic beauty. Whitney recently finished her studies at the beauty school and talked some of the people who were in the program with her to take a big vacation to celebrate. Two other people were able and interested in going and Whitney also invited her best friend Tim. Tim wasn’t in the program with the other students, but he was a massage therapist and he and Whitney had plans to open a full car salon that included all types of deep tissue massage and a complete hair style and nail make over.

However, last March they had other priorities, and the beaches and other elements of Goa were calling their names. They stayed in one of the Goa hotels that had great balcony views and fabulous accommodations. When they woke up their first morning there, they felt the crisp breeze and slight flow of the curtains. They had left the window open the night before and scents of Indian breakfast were wafting through to great them.

After they filled their stomachs with food and heads with ambitions for the day they ventured out onto the Goa streets. During their weeklong visit, they definitely enjoyed some quality beach time, though they also visited some of the historic areas and landmarks. Tim was particularly attracted to the numerous forts he found there, while Whitney was more interested in the State Museum and the Science Center. The two of them had taken vacations before and were very good about doing things the other person wanted and also allowing each other their space to explore personal interests. Whitney enjoyed her solitary trip to the Mahalasa Temple and was amazed by its beauty. She was also calmed by the atmosphere and spent a few moments in quiet meditation and reflection.
