Driving South Africa

The country of South Africa is huge! With more than one thousand six hundred miles of coast line, nearly five hundred thousand square miles of land South Africa is the twenty fifth largest country in the world. South Africa’s terrain is varied, vast and grand with elevations from sea level to nearly eleven thousand three hundred feet above sea level at the highest peak. When researching out trip to South Africa these statistics made me realize that car hire in South Africa would be essential to get the most out of our trip.

Looking forward to a temperate climate due to the surrounding Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. The days should be warm and inviting with cooler and breezy evenings. The coast line is beautify, rugged and rocky and long. Having a car and being able to get about along the coast line will be very nice. The Independence it affords will be welcomed and a better alternative than being at the mercy of a tour group or limited public transportation schedules and time tables. With the more research we do the more excited we after becoming.

From days at the beach and drives along the winding coat to drives inland exploring the diverse country side and scenery. We will get plenty of use out of a hired car. Getting to explore the wine country would be difficult to nearly impossible with out our own car to use. And while we are there we will want to drive into the mountains to experience the cool mountain air, visit local villages and see indigenous artists at work.

From what I can learn there will be more to do than we will be able to manage to. Making the best of each day and taking in what we can as we go is the plan.

Road rules of Dubai

I didn’t know that one needs nerves of steel while driving around on the roads of Dubai. I mean, there are some crazy drivers here. Really crazy, like reversing around a roundabout because the driver missed a turn, or using the hard-shoulder to pass another car. I noticed too, that it’s more common than not to use the right turn indicator when turning left. One time, when I was pulling out of the garage of one of the four star Dubai hotels, a driver weaving in and out of his lane almost side-swiped me. I hear that side swiping is the most common accident in the U.A.E., even on quieter roads, I saw a vehicle parked in the middle of the street while the driver went grocery shopping. Not only that, but get take-out from the comfort of their own seats, while in the road, honking their horn until someone will come out and serve them!
What I found the most nerve racking is extreme tailgating. Motorists pull right up behind me, in these big cars with tinted windows and flash their lights at me. One actually got right up on my bumper, actually bumped me. I moved over as soon as I could, but that was the most scariest time for me. I couldn’t change lanes right away because of the heavy traffic, but that didn’t seem to stop the other driver from tapping me. When I did finally get into the other lane so he could pass me, he did the same thing to the next driver. I had to get off the road after that and calm down. But, before I could do that, another driver squeezed between me and another car to get by.
Fortunately, extreme tailgating only happens in the faster lanes, which is why I now only travel in the slow lanes.

Goa vacation

Goa is a very interesting place a mixture of cultures and architectures. Here in Goa there is still plenty of European influenced architecture from centuries ago when Europeans exploring there was though the mid East and orient and some ended up in Goa and stayed. This mixture makes for an interesting blend of cultural, religion and people. Set on the coast of the Arabian sea Goa i a small state of India where several rivers meet and empty into the Arabian Sea. In the oldest parts of Goa there is a lot of European architecture and churches dating back 300 years. Goa is a popular destination for Indians, Middle Easterners and Europeans. The warm climate, sunny days and miles of beautiful beaches are what draw vacationers here. The water is warm year round and the coolest times of the year in Goa are still nice and warm for anyone living in the colder north, hence it is a popular place to holiday in the winter. Other than the beach there is plenty to do here, Goa has been settled by people as far back as the 3rd century before the common era (BCE), giving this place an amazing range of history and sites to see. With the mixture of Christian, Buddhism and Hinduism there are a lot of churches and temples to be visited. The state of Goa is speckled with many tiny towns and villages that are fun to explore. Local arts and crafts, foods and adventure await anyone will to leave the beach and head for a drive in land. At my five star hotels Goa hotel I was able to rent a car for the day and get a map, directions and some advice on where to go. It was one of our beast days in Goa. Vies of the oceans from the hillside villages, meeting and talking with locals and seeing how the people n this part of the world live. Goa is a destination I would like to make it back to one day.

Eugene O’Neill Successful on New York Stage

Eugene O’Neill was an American playwright who was born in New York City in 1888. One of the things he is most remembered for is being one of the initial founders of the genre of theatre now well known as realism. This form of theatre is also closely associated with the Russian playwright Anton Checkhov, who worked closely with Konstantin Stanislavski, the founder and creator of the technique of acting known as the method system. O’Neill was greatly respected in his day, and remains one of the most respected American writers of the 20th century. Tourists staying in everything from the top luxury to the New York cheap hotel will relate to the characters and situations found in O’Neill’s plays.

O’Neill is recognized as being the first or one of the first writers to draw his characters from the fringes of society and write his dialogue from the American vernacular. This was revolutionary to the stage, and initiated an era of theatre that allowed for greater audience identification with the play and characters. Most of his works contain an element of tragedy, they are also heavily auto-biographical, and are weighted with the drama of human disparity and hopelessness. He is recognized as having written only one comedy, Ah Wilderness, which was a coming of age story and was much different from his standard style.

Some of O’Neill’s most well known works are A Moon For the Misbegotten, The Hairy Ape, Iceman Cometh and Long Day’s Journey Into Night. His first published play, Beyond the Horizon, was produced on Broadway in 1920 and received great critical acclaim. It also received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He would later win another one for Anna Christie, and a third for Strange Interlude. Other major playwrights associated with realism include the Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen and the Swedish playwright August Strindberg.

Solar Powered Energy to Light the Out Door Kitchen

In many states across the country, people celebrate the warmer weather by holding holidays and functions such as graduation parties and weddings outside.  In the state of Arizona however the cooler weather is celebrated, so much so the many homeowners are choosing to add kitchens to their back patios, or building them poolside.  The kitchens are equipped with everything from an out door sink, refrigerator, oven, grill and sometimes even a counter top for preparation and serving their guests.

Many times these celebrations are magically enhanced with the use of the white string lights, candles, tiki torches and paper lanterns.  One consideration with the tiki torches and the candles is that they may be dangerous depending on where they are placed, and they need constant attention should they burn out from time to time.  One of the options many people are choosing these days, is solar generated energy panels.  They create the lighting necessary for seeing what one is doing in the kitchen, as well as creating ambiance and atmosphere.  Some are even used to power fountains set up throughout the party.  Solar powered bulbs can be placed in the tiki torches and the candle holders, still creating the magical or exotic effect, but at far less of a danger.

The generators necessary for such a party are very small and do not interfere with the decorations or the theme of the party.  In fact, the solar lighting companies are becoming quite creative in their designs, offering everything from funky ‘orb’ style lights, lit pathways and sidewalks, to nets of sparkling stars either strung through the trees or used as backdrops for the event.  They can even install custom dance floors with subtle club-like lighting that will flicker to the beat of the music.  The options are endless when one is choosing to take the party outdoors and choosing as well, to light the event using Solar energy.

Business in Singapore

In between business meeting and conferences, we managed to visit a few of the tourist attractions in Singapore. The Botanical Gardens that included the National Orchid Garden, The river walk, The Jurong Bird Park and the very interesting Night Safari . We really enjoyed the Gardens and the Bird Park too. But, the Night Safari was the best in our books, I highly recommend it to anyone staying in one of the Singapore Hotels. I can really understand why it was voted the best attraction in Singapore. Getting is see nocturnal animals was better than I imagined. Watching the large fruit bats eat was fascinating and the animals shows at the end of the Night Safari was very entertaining.

The Jurong Bird Park, was our second favorite attraction in Singapore. We only had a few hours before we had to attend another business meeting, but we could have easily have spent two whole days exploring the park. By the time we made it the the ‘World’s tallest man-made waterfall’, we ran out of time and didn’t get a chance to climb up to the lookout. Now, for the third best attraction, and free! Was the Botanical Gardens. Again, we barely got to see a quarter of the park before we had to attend a conference meeting. We could easily have spent an entire week walking through the various trails going through out the garden. No bicycles are allowed, which we still probably would’ve only got to see just a little bit more of the garden, more so than our two feet. We did get to see a huge spider at the garden, it was about 12 centimeters long, the only thing we did have to pay for at the garden was to see the Orchid Gardens, but that was well worth the entrance fee. They were so beautiful and such a great array of different species of Orchid.

After all the business meetings and the too short sight seeing, we decided that we’ll save up our money and come back to Singapore where will only make time to sight see.

Art for Prabhat in Bangalore

Travel in India is always exciting, offering something new to first-time travelers or repeat visitors, and for four-star hotels, Bangalore is very special.  Offering a sense of luxury and class that are unparalleled, we combine old world hospitality with the best of contemporary design, to make for a sumptuous experience.  We offer amenities that will keep the whole family happy, with excellent restaurants offering food created by world-class chefs, and in-room entertainments that show the latest movies.  We are also pleased to offer a splendid ambience, so that you will feel a sense of rejuvenation that will help prepare you for your new adventures in Bangalore.
Bangalore is a place of many wonders, both classical and contemporary.  There are old part of the city which are very interesting, with ancient temples and places of great historical interest, and there are also places which are very modern.  Bangalore has a reputation for being one of the technological centers of the world, and this is certainly true, but there are many other Bangalores.  There is a fascinating creative culture here, one that has developed over centuries, of course, but in the last few decades has produced some very interesting works of art.  One project that comes through Bangalore, to highlight the work of artists here and help needy children with disabilities, is the Art for Prabhat project.
In this project, children with mental retardation make canvasses for artists in the cities they’re visiting.  The artists make new works on the paper, which is acid-free, and handmade by the children from recycled waste.  These works are then displayed and sold, and the proceeds go to the children.  The Art for Prabhat is beautifully-conceived, and should catch on so that the contributions of some of the invisible young people here can be recognized, giving them a place in the world.  The work of famous artists, such as Bangalore’s own Kaylan Rathore adds another dimension altogether to the project, making a combination of handmade creativity that has many beautiful hands behind it.

Rothko’s New York

When booking your five-star hotel, New York City, one of the truly great cities in the world, beckons.  One of the most diverse cities on earth, New York is home to people of all backgrounds, cultural traditions, and languages.  There is a long and complex history of migration to New York City, and a vast number of tourists who pass through here every year.  It is no surprise, then, that it has such a solid reputation for service and hospitality.  It is a tradition here, in fact, and our hotels are the best of the best, with extremely high standards of service, and the finest in luxury accommodation.  Blending old world charm with new world innovation, our hotels will put you in the center of the action, simultaneously providing you with the utmost in relaxation.
After a delicious night’s rest, and a fine meal served by our world-class gourmet chefs schooled in the highest traditions of international cuisine, you will be rejuvenated and ready to have adventures in the city.  One of the major attractions in New York City is the art, of course.  The city attracts some of the best minds in the art world, coming here to contribute and benefit from the excitement over new creative ideas.  You will very likely come across some of the works of the renowned artist Mark Rothko.  Born Marcus Rothkowitz, in 1903, in the part of Russia now known as Latvia, he came with his family to Portland, Oregon in the U.S. when he was still in elementary school, escaping the growing anti-semitic sentiments of old Europe.
He was a Yale drop-out, and found his way to New York City’s Upper West Side, where he saw his future in a life-drawing class.  He began studying and practicing art here, finding affinity with his teacher Max Weber, who spoke of art as a way to express emotion and spiritual inklings.  Some of his finest early work is closely related to the surrealist school, linking images to the unconscious as described by Freud and Jung.  Mark Rothko was also obsessed with developing a theory of art that contradicted classical art school training, and taught instead to unlock the creative potential by focusing on how children make art.  This found its way into his later work when he began to focus on form and color.  His most famous works are simple colors and shapes, and this earned him free entry into the abstract expressionist school.  As with any movement that tried to claim him, Rothko denied the accuracy of any labels, and moved in his own directions, following his own peculiar muses until the end of his life.

The Laws Regarding Foreign Business Transactions

The United States Congress passed the “Act” in 1977.  This refers to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and was created to address, investigate and put and end to the open and widespread problems of corruption and the participation in that corruption be it through acts of bribery, interacting with companies or officials who have been proven participate in terrorist financing,  money laundering, and extortion.  This was intended to protect the U.S. as well as bring down those within the country and abroad who were involved in such criminal activity.

This law states that it is a federal violation for any citizen involved in business transactions or any United State official to commit bribery in an attempt to secure prospective or continued business with a member of that foreign government.  This law extends to all companies that are publicly traded, be they limited to business conducted with the United States or on the international level. This law demands that accurate records are kept and that these records are to be transparent and available for review and scrutiny at all times.  This is in order to ensure that any corrupt act or violation be brought under investigation as soon as possible.

The United States is one of the few countries with such a thorough and all encompassing set of laws regarding corruption, and it is unfortunate that many of the countries of the world remain corrupt, as the US companies have lost business opportunities over the years through the limitations on dealing with corrupt nations.  Some have complained that in other countries, an act such as giving a gift is standard and customary behavior, while in the States that is considered bribery.  However that is a very fine line to walk, when the consequences of true corruption are so far reaching and devastating.
