Langkawi Crocodiles

“Wait a minute, that guy is going to wrestle that crocodile?” We were at a crocodile farm, the Langkawi Crocodile Farm to be exact, which we found out about from the Langkawi hotels that dot this resort area like pearls on a necklace. We had been in Spain with in the year and saw bullfighting which was strangely compelling and Hemingwayesque, but I did no t know what to think of some skinny guy wrestling a gator, or is it a croc? “Did you know they have been around for like fifty million years?” asked Sally. She wore a hat and sunscreen, to protect form the Langkawi sun. “They have been wrestling alligators or crocodiles or whatever for fifty million years? Are you sure about that?” I teased, and we walked along the various ponds to see the life habits, habitats and general hangouts of these prehistoric looking beasts. They look quite graceful as they carve their way through the water at this beautiful farm, flipping their big spiky tails, and I would hate to tangle with one. The crocs and or gators were very fun to watch and other worldly. The can run very fast on dry land as we saw, even on their stubby legs. Apparently they are pretty much carnivores, and can subsist on a large meal for many months, and can live for like fifty years. We watched them floating quietly, their nose just above the water, eyes just above the water too, and we remarked at the perfect fit these creature had for their environment, that evolution had equipped them so wonderfully to live in their aquatic habitat. It is easy for them to breath when they are submerged and the largest can grow to over twenty feet. I could not imagine encountering an animal that large in the water.
